As good as Your Mosquito Pros’ mosquito control is, the occasional mosquito still slips through the cracks and delivers a bite. So, what are the best ways to manage the bite before it becomes a nuisance? We’ve compiled a list of some of the most well-known home remedies below.
1) Oatmeal: Yes, oatmeal. Despite being primarily known as a breakfast food, oatmeal contains special compounds called avenanthramides that have been proven to have anti-inflammatory and anti-itch properties. To make the blend, simply mix equal amounts of oatmeal and water together until it forms a thick paste. From there, apply to a washcloth and put on the bite for ten minutes then wipe the paste off.
2) Honey: At this point, it seems that there aren’t many things that honey can’t do/cure and mosquito bites are no different. Honey contains anti-inflammatory properties that can reduce the swelling of the bite. On top of that, nobody wants to itch a bite covered in honey so that adds a bit of extra added motivation when it comes to not touching or irritating the bite.
3) Aloe Vera: This one should be no surprise, as Aloe Vera has long been known as one of the most useful remedies against the most common skin inflammation there is, sun damage. This specifically helps to not just aid with the inflammation, but Aloe Vera also calms infections and heals small cuts as well, which could be especially useful for those who are allergic or get an intense itching sensation from mosquito bites.
4) Baking Soda: Baking soda has been proven to have many anti-inflammatory properties as well. Preparing the baking soda paste is fairly similar to the oatmeal method. Just take a tablespoon of baking soda and mix it with just enough water to make a thick paste and apply it to the area for 10 minutes before wiping away. It is important to note, however, that this method could cause skin irritation, and if it does, stop application immediately.
These are just a few of the methods that we’ve found useful in our experience with mosquito bites. There are plenty of remedies out there, but the best way to make sure you address the problem correctly is to get a qualified mosquito control company to solve the issue initially so you don’t find yourself having to make at-home remedies every day.
